Margery Sachs Award 2022
The Margery Sachs Award for Environmental Leadership is NYSACC’s highest honor and is presented for outstanding service to Conservation Commissions and the environment.
Each year, NYSACC honors an individual who has demonstrated lifelong environmental concern and service. Margery Sachs was one of NYSACC’s original directors and a long-time chair of the Pound Ridge Conservation Board. She and her husband donated 7.4 acres of land to the Mianus River Gorge Conservation Committee in the early 1950’s. This committee eventually became affiliated with The Nature Conservancy, and the land the Sachs’ bequeathed became one of TNC's first preserves. Margery represented a generation that valued land preservation long before it became popular to do so. She suffered a massive stroke while attending a NYSACC Board of Directors meeting when she was in her mid-80’s and died a week later. This award is given in her memory.
The recipient of this year's award is Anne Jaffe Holmes. Read more about Anne!
